Ram Scraps Electric Pickup Plans Amid Shifting Consumer Demand
Ram has halted development of its 1500 REV electric pickup, citing tepid North American demand for full-size battery-electric trucks. The decision marks a strategic pivot for the Stellantis-owned brand, which had repeatedly delayed production since the vehicle's CES 2023 debut featuring 350-500 mile range capabilities.
The automaker will instead prioritize a range-extended hybrid model - rebranded as the Ram 1500 REV - combining a 92 kWh battery with a V6 gasoline engine. This new configuration promises 690 total miles, including 145 electric-only miles, while delivering 647 horsepower. Priced at $75,000, the truck represents Ram's bet on transitional technology as EV adoption curves flatten.
